Clock Tower Society Member Spotlight: Stan and Doris ’51 Hall

Doris and Stan Hall

Stan and Doris ’51 Hall created a gift to the University in their estate plan. It will provide scholarships for students earning a nursing degree with preference given to football players.

It was trying to come up with a Christmas present, Stan Hall says, that prompted him to join Missouri Western’s Clock Tower Society and make the Missouri Western State University Foundation a beneficiary of his estate.

He and his late wife, Doris ’51, had always been avid supporters of the University, especially the football program. So for Christmas one year, Stan came up with the perfect gift for Doris, who was a nurse at Heartland Health (now Mosaic Life Care).

He established a scholarship for students who are earning a nursing degree with preference given to football players. And Doris loved her present.

Stan, an Air Force veteran who was president of Seaman & Schuske Metal Works Company in St. Joseph, Missouri, before he retired, said he and Doris “met in a baby carriage.” His parents lived close to her grandparents, and Stan treasures a photo of the two of them taken together as babies.

After he retired, he worked for the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce for five years on downtown initiatives and part time after that for Heartland Health.

Doris, a native of St. Joseph who attended the St. Joseph Junior College one year, volunteered for 20 years for the football program, went to every game and sent off the team for every away game. Stan says he still tries to go to every home game.

Doris also volunteered for the Alumni Association, and Stan served for two terms on the Missouri Western State University Foundation Board of Directors, two years as president.

“Missouri Western has been a great benefit for St. Joseph,” Stan, a native of Savannah, Missouri, says. “I’ve enjoyed my service to the college.”

Like the Halls, you can give back to Missouri Western and provide students in need brighter educational futures. If you would like more information about making a gift to Missouri Western, please contact Kim Weddle ’00, director of development, at (816) 271-5648 or weddle@missouriwestern.edu.
