A Gift to Last Forever

Edward HaffeyEdward H. Haffey ’62 always had a soft spot for the St. Joseph Junior College and gave back to his alma mater in various ways. He served as a member of the MWSU Foundation Board from 2011 to 2017 and was vice chair of the Board’s Investment Committee. In 2007, he received the Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

Ed was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, and graduated from the St. Joseph Junior College in 1962 and George Washington University in Washington, D.C. In 1970, he received a J.D. degree from the University of Colorado School of Law and practiced law for 35 years, primarily as a partner/shareholder of Anderson, Campbell and Laugesen, P.C.

Ed was a member of the Clock Tower Society, an honorary society of donors who have made the MWSU Foundation a beneficiary of their estate and financial planning.

When asked why he felt it was important to leave a legacy gift from his estate, Ed said: “The Junior College has always held a real dear place in my heart. Even though I received degrees from George Washington University and the University of Colorado Law School, my allegiance has always been to the Junior College. By joining the Clock Tower Society, I was able to plan ahead and know that I was supporting Missouri Western. That was a big help to me.”

Edward H. Haffey passed away unexpectedly in 2018. Honoring Ed’s wishes, his beloved wife, Jan, established the Edward H. ’62 and Janet K. Haffey Endowed Scholarship to assist Missouri Western students in perpetuity. We are grateful to Ed and Jan for their dedication to Missouri Western State University, through their gifts of time, talent and treasure. We miss our friend.
